School Spotlight: Bryn Mawr College
There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!
School Spotlight: Bryn Mawr College
Bryn Mawr, PA
Bryn Mawr College isn’t what you might expect from a “typical” women’s college. Due to its strong partnerships with nearby Haverford, Swarthmore, and the University of Pennsylvania, not to mention the co-ed graduate programs available on campus, Bryn Mawr offers its 1,300 undergrads unique opportunities for personal and academic growth. Students can pursue select majors at other area colleges (such as fine arts at Haverford, or linguistics at Swarthmore), while they can also elect to take up to two courses per semester at the University of Pennsylvania, located a 25-minute train ride from Bryn Mawr’s beautiful campus. Math, psychology, and sociology are the three most popular majors, although the college’s science programs are also considered among the school’s strongest. Over half of all science majors conduct mentored research projects, and 40 students per year are offered funding to pursue their research interests during the summer. This past summer, students studied everything from the viability of communal solar power to the effect of music on stress and anxiety levels. Good to know: thanks to the Career & Civic Engagement Center, Bryn Mawr’s diverse student body has incredible access to leadership development opportunities.
