For Scott Alexander, a career in college admissions was the natural complement to his interests in storytelling and policy. He was a Pell-eligible first-generation college student at Bowdoin College, studying government and theater and serving as a campus tour guide and senior interviewer. His first professional admissions position began at Connecticut College where he became Senior Associate Director of Admission and Coordinator of International Admission. Eventually returning to Maine, he continued in director-level admissions positions at Colby College and Bates College, overseeing international admission, strategic planning, communications, and marketing. More recently, he served as a seasonal application reader at both Brandeis University and Brown University. Throughout his twenty-four years in college admissions, Scott reviewed more than 27,000 first year and transfer applications and recruited in more than half the U.S. states and 70 countries. Scott earned a master’s degree at Wesleyan University, concentrating on social science.
